Jinotega | Washed | Las Morenitas
Bright, juicy and beautifully balanced, Nicaragua Las Morenitas is a vibrant washed coffee combining lively fruit with smooth caramel and toffee sweetness.
Las Morenitas is part of the Las Nubes group of coffee farms, situated among the mountains of northern Nicaragua. The farm lies in Jinotega, one of the country's most important coffee-growing regions, where fertile soils, plentiful rainfall and elevation create excellent conditions for speciality coffee.
Owned by producer Victor Robelo, Las Morenitas forms part of a group of farms with their own wet-processing facilities and a dedicated dry mill in nearby Matagalpa.
Coffee here is grown at approximately 1,000–1,250 metres above sea level, with Catuai, Caturra and Marsellesa among the varieties used for this washed lot.
Quality begins with the harvest. Coffee cherries are picked at peak ripeness before being carefully cleaned and sorted. The cherries are then pulped at the farm and the coffee is fermented for approximately 36 hours before being washed.
From there, the wet parchment travels to the Las Nubes dry mill in Matagalpa, where the naturally drier conditions are particularly well suited to careful drying.
The mill uses a distinctive system of tiered raised drying beds, allowing the team to manage temperature, humidity and airflow as the coffee dries. The coffee is gradually moved through the drying system before final milling, sorting and preparation for export.
That attention to detail continues beyond the coffee itself. Las Morenitas provides accommodation and meals for seasonal workers, alongside educational facilities for workers' children and adult learning opportunities. Investing in the people returning to the farm each harvest also helps retain experienced pickers capable of selecting consistently ripe coffee cherries.
In our roast, Las Morenitas produces a wonderfully lively cup. Expect bright lime and tart cranberry, balanced by smooth caramel and sweet toffee. It's juicy and expressive without losing the sweetness and balance that make it so easy to enjoy.

Recommended Brew Methods
V60 / Pour Over ★★★★★
A brilliant showcase for Las Morenitas. Pour over brings the lime and cranberry brightness to the front while preserving its clean caramel and toffee sweetness.
AeroPress ★★★★★
A lovely balance of fruit, sweetness and body. The brighter citrus remains lively while the caramel character becomes rounder and more pronounced.
Espresso ★★★★☆
A vibrant espresso with juicy acidity and plenty of sweetness. Expect lime and cranberry up front, followed by a smooth caramel and toffee finish.
Cafetière ★★★★☆
A fuller expression of the coffee, softening some of the brighter fruit and bringing its caramel sweetness and body further forward.
Flat White / Cappuccino / Latte ★★★☆☆
It works through milk, particularly if you enjoy a fruitier style, but the more delicate lime and cranberry characteristics are best enjoyed without it.
Our pick: V60 / Pour Over
For a clean, juicy cup that allows the bright lime and cranberry to shine against smooth caramel and toffee sweetness.
